Chaos Knight and Lord of Skulls with legs?

A very interesting and expensive day for me today, not only the new Warlord Titan, but look what almost got missed in all the excitement.

Hang on a moment that's the exact pose I used for my Lord of War, well almost :)

I took these images while I was teaching my son how to play with Lords of War.  4 Riptides vs a Lord of Skulls, that was an interesting match up and to be fair it could of gone either way except my son wanted to use the Lord of Skulls and once again he rolled out of his skin.  I'm trying to teach him the rules and I've yet to beat him..... beginners luck :)

Blast from my past, Ebay sales.

As some of you are aware I have been collection figures for some time now and there comes a time when you just need to let some stuff go to make room for the new shiny shiny and for the funds topay for it :)

After selling my Warlord Titan to Dave at Weemen, who I had the pleasure of finally meeting at Blog Wars 9, with a little help from Alex who organised another great tournament. It came to pass that the Imperial Knight was once again a top tier codex at the event and that got me thinking!  It also came to my knowledge that I have not played Apocalypse for some time and as these are primarily for the Apocalypse game,  by buying a Imperial Knight army they can be used for a standard game and Apocalypse it's a win win situation.

So it's with some regret that I have decided to let these go, for another commander to take them into battle, I hope you like my auctions.  Good luck and happy bidding :)

New Battle Fleet Gothic anybody? well almost

I was so excited when I saw this on BOLS, at last I thought 'GW have seen the light and have re-invented Battle Fleet Gothic and may be 40K Epic would be next.' Alas they haven't but it could just be taster for things to come, At-least that's what I'm hoping anyway :)

The playing pieces look cool though, maybe I could buy 10 boxes of Forbidden Stars and use them for both Epic and Battle Fleet Gothic :)

KYTAN DAEMON ENGINE OF KHORNE

The Kytan Daemon engine has finally been released from the dark depths of Forge World, including the new experimental rules. (click here) At just 525 points WS5, I5 and four 'D' attacks, then add rage, it's a formidable opponent for the Imperial Knight and the Wraith Knight.  But will it do the business or should we all wait the the Chaos Knight?

To be honest I'm undecided, if only I had pots of money then I could buy them both.  But I do think the legs are a little to small for the torso and if I had my time again I would have given my Lord of Skulls hind legs like the Kytan (I should have thought of that).  The legs on my Lord of Skull are a little chunky with giant feet compared the FW kit.

Additionally the two major differences between the Kytan and the Lord of Skulls (apart from the Stomp rules) is that the Kytan has lost the Hellstorm template weapon and the extra attacks for being wounded, which to be honest were the only good rules for the Lord of Skulls, but it is 300 points less, swings and round about.

P.S. I am very interested in your opinion on what you think the best lord of war would be because I cannot make my mind up:-  Lord of Skulls, Kytan or the Chaos Knight

Blast From The Past Scratch Built Mars Pattern Warhound Titan

It's been over 6 years since I made my Warhound and in all that time it is still my favourite and most fun I have had scratch building (also my first attempt at airbrushing too), were as the Warlord went on for so long it ended up being a chore. The Khorne Worldeater helmet was fun but as it was created under a tight deadline for Throne of Skulls the fun was taken out of it at the end.  What's your favourite?

Daemon Knight of Khorne - Chaos Knight Conversion

This is the new Daemon Knight of Khorne from Forge World.... I wish, it would have saved me weeks of work :)  I've been very busy of late and not had much opportunity to do any of my modelling, but I was invited to my friends Dave W from Confessions of a 40K Addict "Birthday Bash" Tournament at WarGames in Southport (there are still a few tickets left by the way), which inspired me to do two things, start blogging again and to do something special for the event over the Christmas period and it's finally sculpted, all I have to do now is paint it in 4 weeks.... easy as eating cherry pie, Urmmm, no because my leisure time is over D'oh, I just hope I can finish in time.

The astute of you will notice that I have based my creation on the stance of on one of the Word Bearers Legion Gal Vorbak and the spine on the Crypt Horrors:-

If you like it please leave a comment I would love to here your thoughts.

Daemon Knight of Khorne - Chaos Knight Conversion - Painting Part 1

With just over four weeks before Dave's "Birthday Bash" tournament there is no time to loose, I started painting the carapace armour of the Daemon Knight, well it would be rude not too.

Very early on in the painting process I had a dilemma, do I apply paint chipping and rust effects using common table salt and an airbrush, which I used on my miniature Brass Scorpion Defilers, and after some consideration I decided against it, as the area involved is so small with lots of other detail around it, the rust effects could detract from that details - but did I make the right decision?

Welcome back to part 2 of painting my Daemon Knight of Khorne.  So far I have managed to undercoat the main body of the Knight and almost finish the pauldrons, I just need to highlight the black claws and horns.  Not long to go and I'm running out of time.  What do you think?

Birthday Bash 2.0 Event

A sneaky peak of what's to come and with less than 24 hours to go until Dave and Pete's Birthday Bash 2.0 tournament, I'm getting nervous :)  I've only fought two games with this army and I'm at a 50% winning record, I got thrashed by Throne of Skulls tournament winner Scott Forrest's Eldar and only just managed to beat Ben's Nercons 9-8 on VP's, but it was the first time I had beaten Necrons in years, so that was a plus.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow so that means no sleep for me tonight, in the mean time I hope you enjoy the image or my two Mini Brass Scorpions (Defilers), Chaos Knight of Khorne and Bloodthirster, although you can only see his wings :)

And this is why I don't write battle reports :)

I have stolen this from Dave's 40K Addicts Blog this is the link to the blog once you read this you will know why I don't write battle reports lol :)

And yes we did go to Warhammer World GT3 and had an absolute blast....

Warhammer World GT3 - Game 0 Tyranids v Nurgle Space Marines

Game 0 of GT3 as we went early we arrived at Warhammer World at lunch time, ate and then had tables booked for two, half-two. I'd played Otty and Ben in the run up so it was only right I rocked up against Liam's Nurgle Chaos Space Marines and Deamons

The low down:
  • XXX [Chapter Approved mission]
  • Dawn of War - Table ends pointy deployment
  • I chose deployment zone, but I deployed last unit [giving Liam +1 to win first turn]
Bizarrely I had almost zero recollection of this battle by the end of the weekend. In fact I had such a bad memory I had to ask Liam if he could write some notes for the battle report after looking at the pictures. Of course I was so pleased he took up the offer I'm just going to share what he wrote in his words because I find it that much more entertaining :) So this is the game from Liam's perspective and as far as I'm concerned the best battle report I've never written:

TURN 1
I went first moved all the pox walkers up onto the objective (middle board) and the same for the Landraider and the Daemon prince (my right of the board), moved up Mortarian on the left.

Las-cannon took 6 wounds off the spawning beastie…..
4 OBJECTIVE MARKERS HELD (Total=4)

Deep striked Deathshroud terminators in your deployment area.
-1 to hit on Deathshroud terminators and warp speed did not work.

Warlord deep striked to shoot Mortarian caused 1 wound

You moved one of the flying things to assault the Deathshroud.

Shot one and killed another in CC.

I caused loads of wounds back 4 I think

Large wormy thing deep striked behind my lines and with the genestealers assaulted the Landraider.

The Landraider was left with 1 wound but in overwatch it caused 6 wounds.

In the assault phase caused another to the wormy thing.

Other large wormy thing deep striked in the centre of the board the termy things shot 1 million times and caused 12 wounds on the pox walkers.

Giant genestealer took objective on your left.
2 OBJECTIVE MARKERS HELD (Total = 2)

TURN 2
Morty assaulted your flying thing with the Deathshroud and insta killed him twice over.

CP caused the dead walk again and the 20 cultists shot and killed 6 termi things which ended up as pox walkers, then the pox walkers assaulted the termie things and caused 6 wounds and lost 4 in return so 2 up on the deal. First blood.

Landraider left combat and the Daemon prince assaulted your giant genestealer and was promptly despatched by him Booooo but until your turn.
3 OBJECTIVE MARKERS HELD (Total=7)

Other wormy thing and warlord assaulted Morty killed the Deathshrouds in the shooting phase and did a healthy amount of wounds down to 9 I think in CC, but he killed wormy thing in response.

Genestealers charged towards pox walkers caused loads of wounds but 16 I think but Typhus joined in and killed 10 with the help of the pox walkers extra pox walkers appeared.
Wormie thing assaulted Landraider again but died to overwatch I rolled another 6 to hit 6 to would and 6 to damage lucky lucky...

giant genestealer killed Daemon prince in CC
Termie and pox fight, loads died but all were replaced by both sides this was not going to end any time soon.
2 OBJECTIVE MARKERS HELD (Total = 4)

TURN 3
Yours and mine it was very rushed and blurry

Deep striked Beast of Nurgle and assaulted the giant genestealer killed him and got the objective.
Landraider shot the spawnie beast down to 2 wounds.

Morty killed the warlord.

Typhus and the pox killed all the genestealers through “plague wind” and pistol shooting and assault. Finished off in your turn. The second unit of termie things attacked the pox walkers in the middle this was going to go on forever I was upto 25 pox by now.

4 OBJECTIVE MARKERS HELD (Total=11) + warlord, first blood and behind enemy lines
1 OBJECTIVE MARKERS HELD (total=5)

So there you go, I think Liam was particularly incensed by some particularly fortuitous dice rolling on my part. He also managed to 'troll me' good style when he insisted on using my dead Termagants as recently raised Poxwalkers and I was artfully riled as I was expecting to re-spawn them with my Tervigon and I'd only brought enough gaunts to cover my own needs, certainly not donate them for his use! I also got a bit shouty with him, to my shame, as I was trying to play as a 'tournament simulation' and be pacey and quick to better match the conditions we would face over the weekend. Often we ended up perussing our rule books for clarification, which resulted in our game lasting aorund four hours - so much for tournament simulation! Regardless, we had a laugh and as usual there were plenty of good and even epic moments, I just can't understand why I can't recall them!

New Adeptus Titanicus - Well almost :)

For one moment this morning I actually thought Adeptus Titanicus was going to return and then I saw the Lords of the Battlefield video for the new Imperial knight and my hopes were dashed, but also excited about getting another new Knight :)

"How many guns!?"

I don't know about you but I'm getting excited about the new codex and the combinations we will be able to field in the future.  But I still think it looks like a mini Warlord class titan :)

WIP Nurgle Imperial Knight

With the imminent release of the new Imperial knight codex and some awesome new knights to add to our ranks, I thought it would be a good time to share my WIP Nurgle Imperial knight.   With later posts showcasing my WIP House Terryn and Khorne Imperial Knight.

Now for the reason why I needed a Nurgle Knight, after the GT it became apparent that my Land Raider did not do at all well in all of my 5 games.  The best it did was the warm up match with Dave on the Friday night.  I've wanted to do a Nurgle Knight for ages but I never got around to it, and the longer I left it the more and more models became available for conversion like the Glottkin Knight; and if I'm honest I almost did the conversion then I saw someone on ebay selling all the bits I needed from the Great Unclean One, and I thought it would make for an easier and less time consuming build (the jury is still out on if it was quicker or not).  So I'm going to replace my Land Raider with a Nurgle Knight the issue being it has a definitive finish date, I'm torn between doing a good conversion and loads of time to paint it or a better conversion and less time to paint it.  As of this morning this is were I'm up to I'm about 95% complete I still need to finish the base and other odds and sods but I'm running out of time.

I thought I would include a couple of my favourite Nurgle Knights that I found online, I used these as inspiration.  There are so many to choose from but Brian's and Tony's I really like and are great painter to boat, there truly are some amazing people out there.  I hope you likey :)

A quick update on my Nurgle Knight.  I thought I would test out the colour combination on his pauldrons, and I couldn't resist adding some reflective scenery :)

Time for an update on my Renegade Knight.  I'm still adding milliput rocky spikes to the base but I have painted all the base colours and completed the horns.  The Castellan green base coat on the armour has been airbrushed and the highlights along with the rest of the colours to be painted "the good out fashioned way" :)

Boils, boils and more boils.. With only a few weeks before the GT final I decided to break the back of the painting and as seeing most of him is flesh now, it feels like I've achieved a great amount by doing his possessed body, boils and all.  In the end I decided to keep my painting pallet muted keeping to; yellows, greens, blues and purples and mixed combinations of these colours.  Even the mouths have a heavy amount of purple in the red.
